Saline Location Rx Optical

Rx Optical, Michigan’s leading eye care provider, announced today that they are opening a new office location at 900 E. Michigan Ave. in Saline, Michigan. The new 2,500-square-foot facility will begin seeing patients as of July 1. The decision to build a new office location was in response to a need to accommodate for Rx Optical’s growing patient base across the east side of the state.

This is Rx Optical’s 55thlocation across Michigan and Indiana. It’s also the third location in Washtenaw County. The other two offices are located in the Ann Arbor area. Rx Optical worked with AE Design Solutions of Jackson, Michigan for this build.

The new Saline location will provide eye exams, eye glass fittings, medical patient care, eye care solutions for adults and children, contact lens fitting, and frame adjustments and repairs. Rx Optical manufactures all lenses at their state-of-the-art lab located in Kalamazoo. Because Rx Optical does not outsource production of lenses, their team is able to provide quick turnaround and unmatched quality control.

“Saline has seen incredible growth in recent years, with many new homes, retail outlets, unique restaurants, and great schools,” said George Jepson, Rx Optical Vice President of Marketing. “Saline is an ideal area for Rx Optical, and we look forward to serving a patient base that we feel is currently being underserved when it comes to optometric care and eyewear. We are also a proud sponsor of the Foundation for Saline Area Schools, so we already feel connected to this wonderful community.”

Founded in Kalamazoo in 1947, Rx Optical currently employs more than 350 people throughout their 55 offices in Michigan and Indiana, including four new open positions at the Saline office. Rx Optical has plans to open a new location in Kalamazoo this fall.

“We have been serving the Michigan community for more than 70 years, providing hands-on solutions at our in-house laboratory and locations,” said Jepson. “This new Saline office will allow us to support the industrial eyecare safety needs of many local manufacturing, municipal, and service businesses in the area. We put our patients first and strive for continuous improvements in order to earn their trust and confidence.”

Rx Optical participates with vision insurance plans from local businesses and will submit insurance claims on patients’ behalf. Give your eyes a shady view

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — We are loving our sunny days of summer but you have to admit it's a little bright out there after so many rainy days. When you head out you're going to want to make sure you've got a good pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes from cataracts and macular degeneration caused by the sun.

Kirk and Val take a look at some of the trends and talk the importance of sunglasses on National Sunglasses Day. Casey Beaird with Rx Optical Vision Care shows us the hottest looks that also protect your eyes.

Fashion Forecast: Sunnies

We’re all dropping money on sunglasses right now, so we might as well know what’s hot, where the trends are headed and who has the best knowledge on summer’s favorite accessory.

Rx Optical

A photo of round sunglasses and square sunglasses from Rx Optical.

The sunglasses for spring/summer 2019 are trending toward a twist on retro shapes. Expect lots of color on the frame and lens, and even prints.

“Instead of offering the typical black or brown frame, our patients now have many color options from clear to blues to reds, frames with two tones and can even match a pattern to an outfit by the same designer — Bebe and Lilly Pulitzer for example,” said Jillayne Krogel, director of strategic planning and special projects at Rx Optical.

For women, look for styles with wider rounds, cat eyes in both plastic and metal materials, floral prints on temples and sharper edges. Trends for men include round shapes in metals, double bars added in plastic, patterned colors, blended colors for a fade look and frames in clear and grey tones.

Krogel’s favorite sunglasses are the Chloé metal twist round version. “It goes with any outfit, is really comfortable and I feel like a movie star in them.”

Fashion aside, to protect eyes from harmful UV rays, Krogel suggests looking for sunglasses with 100-percent UV protection, with lenses that are impact resistant and do not pop out of the frame. Make sure to choose lenses that are large enough to shield your eyes from most angles.

Don’t Forget Your Sunglasses

It is officially springtime in Michigan and that means warmer weather, blooming flowers and more sunshine. While many people think of sunglasses simply as a fun fashion accessory, they also can be the most important pair of glasses you own.

When you’re headed outdoors, don’t forget to grab your shades, since they’re essential for maintaining healthy vision.
